Medications to Hold for Skin Testing

This list is not exhaustive; you should receive detailed info on medications to hold for testing, if possible, with your new patient packet information.


STOP 7 DAYS PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT
24 Hour Antihistamines: Allegra, Alavert, Clarinex, Claritin, Loratadine, Zyrtec, Xyzal, Dicel, Palgic, Hydroxyzine.
Nasal Sprays: Astelin (other nasal sprays okay to continue)
Prescription Eye Drops: Optivar
**Antidepressants, sleeping aids, chronic pain medications including Buspar, Elavil (amitriptyline), Vanspar, Pamelor (nortriptyline), Etrafon, Limitrol, Triavil, Zyprexa, Remeron, Prolixin, and Abilify (**MUST OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM PRESCRIBING PROVIDER PRIOR TO HOLDING DISCONTINUING ANY OF THESE MEDICATIONS**).

STOP 3 DAYS BEFORE APPOINTMENT
Antihistamines and Cold Remedies including Actifed, Allergy Sinus, Benadryl, Chlortrimeton, Codimal LA/DM/DH/PH, DA Chewables, Tylenol PM, Tylenol Sinus, Semprex-D, Cough drops, D'Allergy, AllerX, Dura-vent DA, Polyhistine-D, Ru-Tuss, Rynatuss, Dimetapp, Tavist, Trinalin, Doxepin/Sinequan, Advil Allergy/Sinus, Bromfed
Eye Drops including Patanol, Pataday, Elestat, Zaditor

STOP MORNING OF APPOINTMENT
Inhalers including Albuterol, Maxair, Proventil, Terbutaline, Ventolin, Combivent
*If you have an afternoon appointment, refrain from above inhalers after 8:00am.
**ONLY hold above inhalers if symptoms allow!**

LAST DOSE NIGHT BEFORE APPOINTMENT: Symbicort, Advair, Serevent, Foridil, Spriva

NO RESTRICTIONS (May continue to use)
Asthma Inhalers including Aerobid, Atrovent, Azmacort, Asmanex, Tilade, Flovent, Intal, Pulmicort, Vanceril, QVar, Beclovent.
Asthma Medications including Accolate, Singulair, Slo-Bid, Slo-phyllin, Theodur, Theophylline, Unidur, Uniphyl, Zyflo.
Nasal sprays including Flonase, Nasacort, Nasonex, Rhinocort, Veramyst

HIVES / SWELLING
If evaluation is for hives or swelling, it's okay to continue antihistamines.
